RE: Clarification of musicians: Tonight's Hollywood "Spirits in the Sky" show w/ Billy Corgan & Dave Navarro at the Hotel Cafe show.

Mark Weitz, (of the original Strawberry Alarm Clock-Incense & Peppermints) was on Keys tonight and throughout the tour with Billy. The bass player was Mark Tulin of the Electric Prunes who did a fantastic job of kicking some serious ass on them 4 strings!
    Peace,

    Mark Weitz

    Wonderful piece. My view:

Billy Corgan is a historically noteworthy composer - period.

There's a reason why his fellow musicians (like Kurt Cobain) seem to take instant notice of his talent in a way that the "layman" is slower to do.
It's only a matter of time until many, many more of the scenesters come around.

Posed to the room: If you have a problem with his voice, ask yourself these questions:

Did we criticize Schubert's voice, or just listen to the real musical fabric of his song-cycles?

Is is actually Corgan's voice that's singing, or is it another part of the arrangement? In some songs, the voice truly doesn't take the lead the whole time.

Thanks for stopping by Mark! I must admit I didn't see the keys (only the percussion set) but I did have a limited view of the lower stage due to the heads in front of me. Again, awesome show.

Dom, I have ripped off your video and embedded it into the post. Great footage, I woke up humming that song this morning. :)

Your review is spot on! I was lucky enough to be there last night and I walked away thinking, wow, everyone up on stage rocked it. Everyone had an important part to play, and they sounded amazing. It was such a FUN show. I knew 1 song of the entire set, and it didnt matter, the music was so good, it had me from the 1st song!

The costume contest was funny. I lost, but although nerve wracking (not f-ing up their equipment) it was really awesome to be up on stage with the man! And ya, cleavage stalker, came off as crazy-poor thing! lol! I'm just glad Billy didnt pick on me, he was pretty tough on a lot of contestants!

I wish there was another show to go to :)

That was an amazing, amazing show. I was in the back but was able to take a few decent pictures: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lovine/sets/721576...

Always something about smaller intimate venues that make a gig all the more real.

Sierra Swan was great as well, loved her voice!!

how about that mark weitz!! don't count him out as some nuggets throwback! sure the strawberry alarm clock 1st lp was just rereleased by sundazed, but on VYNYL - the new craze sweeping the nation. sounds good.

and, SAC has not only been playing live, recently, but also recording some tasty numbers for your 21st century ears. stay tuned.

and, yes, you should see mark tulin and the electric prunes when they are in town - they got it going on!

Thank you for a gracious review like this. I have noticed that the normal BC haters have pretty much slept on this mini-movement, and I think it's because they can't hate it. Much of the music media press decided to make Billy the personal punching bag of the hipster universe and they aren't comfortable seeing the man take it to the streets in such a cool, natural, and creative fashion. Undermines all the crap they have spewed about him for years now.

Cheers to Billy...Spirits in the Sky was a beautiful thing, can't wait to see more of it.
